"I'll talk to the representative , I guess," she says, because it's not as if she can refuse anyway. They are all slaves these days. The only difference is that Zinhle refuses to pretend otherwise. pg 50, VALEDICTORIAN

"No," Zinhle says again, more firmly. She does not raise her voice. Her parents taught her to be respectful of her elders. She believes respect includes her being very, very clear about some things. pg 46, VALEDICTORIAN

Add a CommentAn excellent collection of short fiction stories fro a wide range of authors. If you love dystopian or apocalyptic fiction you'll enjoy this book. If you've never read anything in this genre, start here. You may not like all the stories, but the authors featured here have all written novels and other works, which could lead you to a wonderful new author or two.
Some of the stories in this novel are extremely worth reading. Though some stories I could have lived without (the first one, and the random poem) most of them were extraordinary. Absolutely found the second story phenomenal (ew, zombies). Everything from world-wide sickness, to drout, famine, pestilence, warfare, alternate realities. Some stories were so well written, I was completely upset that there wasn't an entire novel written about the world and it's characters.
What made this book least enjoyable to read was reading the point of view of a linguistically challenged character. There were at least 2.
This book of short stories is about what life might be like after a world wide disaster, as well as stories about what the planet earth might be like in a parallel universe (dystopia). There are some stories worth reading. Over all, though, IMO they are not worth the time it takes to read them - hence the low rating.
wow these short stories are quite unique, I recommend this book of short stories for anyone
