Very evocative of Maine.

The Lobster Kings is an imaginative tale full of magic and atmosphere. Although it bogs down a bit in the middle, the beginning and ending of the story are wonderfully storied and paced.

This was a winner for me. It has such a great blend of elements. A bit of adventure mixed in with some family relationship issues and just a touch of folklore. I thought it was so well put together. This would be a good book to try if you are sick of reading the same old thing all the time. It is a bit unusual but very readable. It will be one of my favourites of the year!

I did not like this book. The writing style did not appeal to me. The language was bad, even for the subject matter. I don't think it was handled convincingly enough to make it harmless. The story was disppointing and the ending was unsatisfactory. I do agree the the mixture of myth and history was at times intriguing and beautiful. However that just served to make the rest all the more clumbsy and underachieving for me.

This book had great characters and a wonderful east coast atmosphere. It sucked me right in.

A wonderful and compelling story although I found the violence at the end of the book somewhat gratuitous. Looking for more things from this author

Sorry, couldn't get past the first 2 discs of this book. Terribly depressing...

An engrossing family saga that echoes Shakespeare's King Lear; a memorable setting that is as much a character as the characters themselves, with lovely language and s story to wrap yourself up in.

Satisfying story. Wonderful character development and some truly beautiful prose. I thought the pacing was spot on. The author alternates tension and the advancement of the plot with longer stretches of description that create mood and build a realistic setting. I would recommend this book - particularly as a summer read. Great pick for readers that enjoy family sagas.

This is one of the best books I have read this year (30 so far)
It is story-telling at its best, page turning mystery in the best sense.
A family saga:interesting characters, hardworking, cursed, villains around the corner.....bonus..... Beautifully written. Would say great summer read....but don't want that to be misunderstood...but if you have only one or two books to read this summer... Read this one!
