I've read almost all of his books and this was a very different change. The story is told from the viewpoint of a young girl. The tragedy she and her brother go through when the loss of a parent & their home to moving in with their great grandmother to the death of a friend in the 1940's.

It was a simple story made into a simple but very good movie with unknown actors, except for Ellen Burstyn. The script fit the story well. The best part was the photography of the setting, which was wonderful. The wardrobe and props were very good and helped create the era of the movie. An enjoyable movie for the family.

Baldacci has written a great story (based on his family upbringing in Virginia, USA). It is a story that the whole family can enjoy. It is very different to his other books but it has a great theme and set at a good pace. The acting was also done well.

If there is a young writer in your family; this is a very touching story of a young budding author.

To the parents - of children who are ten years and younger; please realize this story has concerns of child abuse incident. Also, child friend dies in mining accident. Grandma shows zero tolerance for abuse.

This story is staged on a farm with grandma, near a coal mining town. The family values are very moral and loving.

Grandmother is generous, sharing the beauty of her herself, home, and land with others.

This story has abundance of nature, determination, truth and friendship.
