"New York Times bestselling author Peter V. Brett brings one of the most imaginative fantasy sagas of the twenty-first century to an epic close. For time out of mind, bloodthirsty demons have stalked the night, culling the human race to scattered remnants dependent on half-forgotten magics to protect them. Then two heroes arose--men as close as brothers, yet divided by bitter betrayal. Arlen Bales became known as the Warded Man, tattooed head to toe with powerful magic symbols that enable him to fight demons in hand-to-hand combat--and emerge victorious. Jardir, armed with magically warded weapons, called himself the Deliverer, a figure prophesied to unite humanity and lead them to triumph in Sharak Ka--the final war against demonkind. But in their efforts to bring the war to the demons, Arlen and Jardir have set something in motion that may prove the end of everything they hold dear--a swarm. Now the war is at hand, and humanity cannot hope to win it unless Arlen and Jardir, with the help of Arlen's wife, Renna, can bend a captured demon prince to their will and force the devious creature to lead them to the Core, where the Mother of Demons breeds an inexhaustible army. Trusting their closest confidantes, Leesha, Inevera, Ragen, and Elissa, to rally the fractious people of the Free Cities and lead them against the swarm, Arlen, Renna, and Jardir set out on a desperate quest into the darkest depths of evil--from which none of them expects to return alive. Again a slower narrative then the early books. Though there is a fair bit of action in the book the story conclusions are a bit abrupt. Overall the series is worth it if you are a fan of the genre.

I almost quit this series 3 times and after The Core, I should have, Author lost his way and had a Hurry and finish it to a disappointing end and left me going "Thats it? Thats all?" I give it 1 star

A good series from book one to this finale. Very different from the books I’ve read so it to some time to get used the language and different customs. The demons were strange creatures and fighting them was all together ausome. Loved the characters and enjoyed the whole series.

I read this for the "A Book With Bad Reviews" part of my 2018 reading challenge. I understand it's book 5 in the series and I haven't read the first 4, but every other time I read a book farther into a series it still spends a chapter explaining the characters and previous events. This one didn't, it just jumped right in and I had no idea who anyone was or what these "dama" and "shama" titles meant. I was confused the entire first half of the book, the plot condensed more in the second and made a little more sense, but not by much.

This is one series that I cannot wait to read over again. Such a great story. If anyone is looking for an incredible series to read, this one should be at the top of the list.

I have followed this series beginning with The Warded Man and I think this is the best one since the first by far. The cast of characters is huge and in some previous books I thought there was way too much detail on minor characters. Now Brett has managed to draw in almost all these characters into the fight to defeat the demons once and for all. Lots of twists and turns, some of my favorite characters die, some least favorite survive, but I suppose that is the nature of war.
