A toxic river divides nineteen-year-old Violet Bates's world by gender. Women rule the East. Men rule the West. Welcome to the lands of Matrus and Patrus. Ever since the disappearance of her beloved younger brother, Violet's life has been consumed by an anger she struggles to control. Already a prisoner to her own nation, now she has been sentenced to death for her crimes. But one decision could save her life. To enter the kingdom of Patrus, where men rule and women submit. Everything about the patriarchy is dangerous for a rebellious girl like Violet. She cannot break the rules if she wishes to stay alive. But abiding by rules has never been Violet's strong suit and she's tired of playing a game she didn't agree to. Now thrust into more danger than she could have ever predicted, Violet is forced to sacrifice everything in the forbidden kingdom, including forbidden love.

1st book in the Gender Series

When I heard about this, I have to admit I was skeptical because of the title, but when I read the summary and what it was about, it sounded really interesting. I'd been seeing people say on comments that if I like 'Divergent' or 'Hunger Games', then I would really like this one. I finally got it on amazon, and when I read it I was hooked, omg. It's really captivating and it's just an everyday scenario, boys vs girls, but taken to a whole new, higher level.
What captivated me about this was just the strength of violet, whom I'd like to think resembles a part of my inner, stronger self. I really admire her fearlessness, and her rebel spirit. I really enjoyed this story because Violet displayed a perfect example of the underestimated strength of woman.
I am also a sucker for romance; couldn't help but smile and grin at Violet and Viggo's calling for each other :3

I actually kind of liked it. The world created by Forrest is interesting and I'm intrigued to know more about how it ended up like this.

If you like dystopian novels than it's at least worth a read.

A weak attempt at a dystopian thriller. The writing is okay, but the plot is virtually non-existent and the characters completely lack depth. At this point I am not even planning to read any subsequent titles in this series.
