"The #1 New York Times bestselling series returns with Mitch Rapp racing to prevent Russia's gravely ill leader from starting a full-scale war with NATO. When Russian president Maxim Krupin discovers that he has inoperable brain cancer, he's determined to cling to power. His first task is to kill or imprison any of his countrymen who can threaten him. Soon, though, his illness becomes serious enough to require a more dramatic diversion--war with the West. Upon learning of Krupin's condition, CIA director Irene Kennedy understands that the US is facing an opponent who has nothing to lose. The only way to avoid a confrontation that could leave millions dead is to send Mitch Rapp to Russia under impossibly dangerous orders. With the Kremlin's entire security apparatus hunting him, he must find and kill a man many have deemed the most powerful in the world. Success means averting a war that could consume all of Europe. But if his mission is discovered, Rapp will plunge Russia and America into a conflict that neither will survive. "In the world of black-ops thrillers, Mitch Rapp continues to be among the best of the best" (Booklist, starred review)"--

This writer can't touch Vince Flynn. All the elements are there, but it just falls flat. There's not enough of Irene Kennedy in the stories. She was always a big part of them. There's no denying Mitch Rapp was always a tough and mean guy, but now he seems unnecessarily viscous. It's time for Mitch to recover from his wife's death and calm him down a bit. He's been angry long enough.

It's an exciting, if somewhat implausible story. Calls for a lot of suspension of disbelief, but it's fun to read. If you're looking for real-world espionage/political fiction, look elsewhere, but if you want to kill a few hours with a potboiler, this is a likely candidate.

The editing is horrible, however. The punctuation is poor; there are numerous grammatical flaws, and overall the book is not well-written.

Unbelievably bad writing by Kyle Mills. Vince Flynn wrote entertaining and somewhat believable books but his replacement is a poor substitute writing unbelievable trash.

I lasted only a few pages. Life’s too short.

A worthy successor to carry on Flynn's creation. A book of "What If's" in todays environments.

The back-drop for RED WAR is a tale of what happens when a Russian dictator finds himself with a terminal illness and the impact it might have on both Russia and the rest of the world, most especially the NATO alliance. Kyle Mills continues to do a credible job of writing for Vince Flynn, and I like that his back-drop for this story raises issues relevant to the times we live in. Mitch Rapp, et al are part of an exciting and complicated plot to address the problems that arise. Another wild and woolly ride across continents and countries. I just hope Mills isn't prescient in his imaginary plot. Enjoy the read.

I have read every Vince Flynn book to date. "RED WAR" was a disappointment. There was no character development in Rapp, Coleman, Aronov, and Claudia. It was simply a bunch of characters running around Russia on a crazy and convoluted plot. When a good book ends, you want more. With this book, I wanted my time back.
