This film for me was a quiet, emotion-stirring showcase for the talent of Alan Rickman and a pleasant introduction to Carrie Ann Moss. A quick look at IMDB's "Known for" makes clear why our dvd paths haven't crossed before. Mr Rickman has been on my go-to list since T,M,D and could probably do no wrong (and now sadly, never will). Sigourney Weaver's character and her titular affection for snow were less interesting but served to bring the others together. Emily Hampshire's Vivienne warrants a deeper look because we barely got to know her here.
Lingering story questions aside: Would grandparents have sent their beloved child out hitch-hiking while they went off hiking-hiking? Just how many adults with a diagnosis does a writer need to know to avoid flaws which appear cliche? How fine is the line between grieving father and... ..lingerers aside, watch and enjoy this film. Bring tissues, just in case.

If for no other reason, watch this film for Alan Rickman. This is a different kind of role from the one's that made him famous. It's a wonderful way to remember him.

past events in Rickman's life and current events in Weaver's mesh into the unusual circumstances of a perfect stranger being asked to stay a few extra days to take out the garbage. and to help with a funeral. and to come and play in the snow. good performances.

my favourite Rickman movie is Truly, Madly, Deeply.

Unpredictable honest quiet little gem of a movie. I didn't know anything about the plot so the opening was a real shock. Enjoyed the Canadian setting viewed through the eyes of a British character. Alan Rickman was superb and every character a delightful surprise. Highly recommend this movie.

Very moving tale of autism and love.

The scenario was completely preposterous. I couldn't get past Rickman's character being welcomed into the home/neighborhood as opposed to his realistically being recognized as a constant reminder of the young girl's death (regardless of the truck driver's responsibility and Weaver's mental illness). It was refreshing, however, to see him in a role other than the only other one I've ever seen him in and typecast him as -- the evil villain in "Die Hard" 25+ years ago.

Following a horrific accident in which the young hitchhiker he picked up is killed, a British tourist with a few dark secrets tries to make peace by moving in with the young girl's badly autistic mother while finding release of a different kind with the woman next door. A healing trinity is formed and, thanks to the power of mental illness, everyone walks away transformed. This story of one guilt-ridden man's journey into light has a great premise but in typical Canadian fashion it is overly mawkish, arty and rife with dime store symbolism (ooh, metaphorical wallpaper and snow globes!) Great for those who like having a film’s message rammed down their throats with a jackhammer.

Interesting story of ordinary people in adverse circumstance. Especially liked Sigourney's character being that autism spectrum disorder is more often diagnosed which poses the question what does that look like? This movie has the feel of a book you can't put down until your at the back cover. Overall a good movie
