Read it if you are a fan of the series. But be prepared to take some time. This book does not flow well and is NOT an easy read. As others have noted this is a loooooong book that brings the war part of the series to an end while leaving open the possibility for another or even an anthology or two. While I did enjoy the story it was LOOOOOOOOONG and made mostly so by the introduction of dead end characters and micro plots that seemed to only be there to up the word count.(or provide basis for the anthologies...?) The many passages where Mr Weber spent 3-4 pages of detailed descriptions and development of characters that then get blown apart 2 pages later became repetitious and distracting after awhile. I found myself falling out of the enjoyment of the reading and mentally screaming at the author to just get on with it!!! Overall I was satisfied with the read and the "conclusion" of the series.

After reading all of the books in this series (that I have already that is; something like 5-6), my only hope for Weber's writing now, would be for Merlin Anthraws to finally gets the entirety of the Safeholdians together as one, only so that the entire planet finally gets discovered and then gets completely wiped out by the Gbaba... thereby ending this long drawn out, pleading, death cry that is this series.

This is my only hope for this series. (Like this series, all that effort on the parts of the multitude of unrealistic characters, literally becomes all for absolutely nothing)

"Wrap it up B! Wrap that sh-t up!"

limited plot development, the content could have put in a hundred pages and there was no need for that much paper to be wasted. I think Weber had a contract to fill and told his computer to produce the required volume.

If they buy 20 copies to meet immediate demand, what do they do in a couple of months when demand drops and they only need 2 or 3? I'm sure a lot of people would like to get an almost-new copy for a couple of bucks, but that's not good for the library.

Way too long & I had to look up previous books's maps to guess where the front lines & home front sideshows were. It only finish first arc not the hidden Ghaba subplot.
Imperial German helmets on cover? Really?
Second half bit rushed & bit a let down.
David Weber infodump style make me very reluctant to read sequel.
