A journalist embarks on a cross-country train ride at Christmas--a journey that will lead him into the rugged terrain of his own heart--in this New York Times bestselling holiday tale, now a Hallmark Hall of Fame original movie!

Disillusioned journalist Tom Langdon must get from Washington to Los Angeles in time for Christmas. Forced to travel by train, he begins a journey of rude awakenings, thrilling adventures, and holiday magic. He has no idea that the locomotives pulling him across America will actually take him into the rugged terrain of his own heart, as he rediscovers people's essential goodness and someone very special he believed he had lost.

David Baldacci's THE CHRISTMAS TRAIN is filled with memorable characters who have packed their bags with as much wisdom as mischief...and shows how we do get second chances to fulfill our deepest hopes and dreams, especially during this season of miracles.

David Baldacci isn’t usually noted for writing romance novels so for him, this is a rarity, heading out in a new direction. This novel, and I had the great fortune of being able to read it in book form, sends Him in a new direction. There’s lots of snow, there’s a Christmas train heading west, travellers Who must be on their way add to their destinations before the holiday. Part detective thriller, but mainly romance novel, this Is the poignant love story that will tug at your heart strings. It is the story of love lost: will it be found again? Does boy get girl? Who is the girl anyway?
Like I said, an enthralling story easy to get hooked on till you’re all the way through.

It may help to go into this realizing it really *is* a Christmas book and it has 3 separate stories, the first two of which deal with Christmas. The first story is roughly two thirds of the book. It has recognizable Baldacci characterizations to it but is essentially a feel-good story and lacking zest. The second is only a couple of pages and to be honest I quickly got bored with it. I think it ended with an over-used "surprise" element. The third is more Baldacci-like and is a prequel to the Camel Club.

Not too bad but very non Baldacci.

Fun read with realistic logistics of long distance train rides. It was funny and presented several twists in the finale.
