"It's lonely being a cannibal."
This 1999 film feels like a cult film in search of a cult. It's arguably the best black horror cannibalism movie of the 90s. You can see how the producers might've thought they had a hit on their hands given that their three leads were all coming off pretty big movies: Guy Pearce had "L.A. Confidential," Robert Carlyle had "The Full Monty," and David Arquette was in the "Scream" series. But I can also see how a very gory movie set in the frontier and involving the consumption of human flesh didn't find much of an audience. It's a pity because this is a well-acted, bloody, and sometimes darkly funny film that upends a lot of the Western cliches. It also touches on the Native American legend of the Wendigo. The supporting cast includes Jeffrey Jones, Jeremy Davis, and Neal McDonough (both Davis and McDonough were later in "Justified"). Score by Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz) and Michael Nyman. Directed by Brit Antonia Bird. Eat up.

We decided not to watch this after reading the Parents Guide content advisory on IMDb. So, what if we're in our 30's and 50's? Anyway, this movie is R rated, and if you are a little "iffy" with this genre, you may want to read the IMDb information.
