After reading the first book in this trilogy, A Girl of Fire and Thorns, I decided that this trilogy was your typical fantasy story about a heroine who is under pressure to save the world. I wasn't sure if I really wanted to continue with the series, but I'm glad I did because this sequel is drastically better than the first book of the series. The plot is action-packed and I felt myself constantly wondering what was going to happen next. The main character Elisa has grown incredibly in this book from a simple princess to a strong queen. While the first book felt slightly one-dimensional to me, this sequel feels so much more layered than the first book and I feel myself starting to connect with the characters and the story. Bravo to the author for writing a sequel that is so much stronger than the book before! After that intense ending, I can't wait to get my hands on the last book of this trilogy!
