In this retelling of the Cinderella fairytale, Cinderella spends her day cleaning the house and taking care of her awful stepmother and sisters. When the annual prince's ball is announced, she acts, calling a fairy godmother to help her prepare. The rather odd fairy gives the disheveled Cinderella new apparel and a mode of transportation, but her taste leaves much to be desired. After arriving at the ball, the less than enthused girl finds out that she needs to win a dance competition to even get to meet the prince. Off flies the ribbons, and bows, and poofy pink dress, as she performs an unusual combination of dance moves. Cinderella finally gets her chance, only to learn that you don't always get what was advertised. In a nice little twist the fed-up young woman decides to start out on her own career path. Cali's new retake on a fairy tale is another great work that encourages girls to shake off the traditional female role for one that is more fulfilling. Barbanègre's digitally drawn, colourful cartoon style fits the amusing nature of the tale.
