I'm very glad Every Breath revisited Kindred Spirit and the stories it told/tells. That's a wonderful basis for this novel. Nicholas Sparks does not write romance novels, he writes romantic novels, mostly fraught with separation, illness and yes, death then renewal. Unfortunately, while the main characters had deep depth, there was little depth to how their relationship, their 'abiding for all time' love came to be. In that he is superficial only delving into what they thought they perceived rather than shared conversation, interaction and experience, which made 'the only one for a lifetime' aspect a bit unbelievable. I was shocked and disappointed by the 'Author's Note'. Had I been thinking about the category of the book, I wouldn't have been, but, alas. . .
