Ariel, a sixteen-year-old mermaid, has always been fascinated about what life on land was like, but her visits to the surface is forbidden by her father, King Triton. She falls in love with Prince Eric and makes a deadly deal with Ursula to become a human for three days in exchange for her voice. In this movie there are so many wonderful songs such as “Under the Sea” and “Part of Your World”. I like the clear theme of unconditional love that is discussed throughout the movie. The little mermaid is a great movie for younger kids! @grumpykat of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library In my opinion, this is one of the Disney movies that has the best music! The songs are very catchy, the characters are likeable, and the animations and storyline are intriguing. I like the underwater, mermaid theme, and think that that will be very interesting to young viewers. I did, however, not love Ariel, and found her to be a bad example. She didn’t listen to her father, and ended up putting everyone in danger, all because she fell in love with a human who doesn’t even know that she exists. All that aside, the supporting characters were wonderful, and the film was very entertaining. Therefore, Ariel is definitely not my favourite Disney princess; however, I would still recommend this movie to other viewers! @PenelopeScriptor of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library The Little Mermaid (1989) is a funny and heartwarming movie. The movie introduces mythical creatures such as mermaids to young children. The Little Mermaid will capture the attention of the young and old. Almost a Disney princess classic, Ariel, and her sea-friends will take you on a thrilling adventure in and out of the sea. As Ariel faces some "problems" in her father-daughter relationship, she finds herself choosing between listening to her father or disobeying him and falling in love with a human. Ariel soon makes a deal with an evil sea witch named Ursula, which Ursula prevents from being completed. She soon sabotages Ariel's supposed-to-be wedding and casts a spell on the prince. She soon breaks Prince Eric free from the spell and marry's him, living happily ever after. Rating 5/5 @EMBookWorm14 of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board
