Baltimore Blues

the First Tess Monaghan Novel
Apr 23, 2018jandt_mcmurray rated this title 3.5 out of 5 stars
Tess Monaghan is a young woman searching for herself. But as long as she's searching for herself, she may as well do what she really loves & use her reporter skills to search for answers to a friend's murder. Just as you would expect, she seems to be failing in a major way until the big clue breaks near the end of the story. But just when you think the story is over & details are about to be cleaned up, a quick turn of events takes your recently settled stomach back in to overdrive. It was a good mystery, but I've decided that I am definitely partial to more dated period pieces, those that are set in years prior to 1970. I did enjoy all of the intertwining of various people & groups & the setting of the story in Baltimore, MD. I liked that the primary investigating character was a single woman that doesn't have everything figured out. She is forced to rely on the help of several friends, both old & newly acquired ones. I like that she finds the strength she needs to conquer weaknesses & fears when she ultimately is faced with them. Age recommendation: 16 & up (sexual scenarios, profanity, suicide, infidelity) On a scale of 1-10 stars, I give it 7.
