Jane Eyre is possibly the most overdone of the great classic novels, yet I still yearn for the definitive version. Points I look for are: is Jane plain? Is Rochester an ugly man, yet still sexy? Does the screenplay include Rochester`s manipulative side ("I`ve had bad experiences with pretty, confident women. But hey, she`s just an orphan-governess!") Does the screenwriter have a sense of humour? -- the goth-comedy mix is delicate. Above all, do they take enough time to tell the story?
